Months before websites all over the internet voluntarily went dark
in protest of SOPA, the internet censorship bill which was being
considered by congress, Obama signed onto the Anti-Counterfeiting
Trade Agreement.
He did so way back in October of last year using his claimed
authority to make 'executive agreements', which basically means he
doesn't intend to, or even believe he needs to, get the congress to
ratify this TREATY.
Yesterday the European Union signed onto ACTA without any debate.
ACTA has become a reality far worse for internet freedom than

The silly things the government makes people do
This video is a specific example of how silly government
requirements can stifle the growth of small business and take away
one man's economic liberties.
Though it is a specific example, the problem is systematic and
widespread. It's happening all around us and only the big business
companies can afford to comply with bizarre and useless
requirements, and often THEY are given exemptions.
I'd imagine, big companies must love this sort of thing. How better
to stifle your competition than to let the government to do it for you?

Pretty much everybody knows that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was detained
recently by the TSA and missed a flight to Washington D.C.
He even tried to cooperate with them by offering to go through the
scanner again, but that wasn't good enough, they wanted to lay hands on him.
While the White House and the TSA try to confuse people about
whether or not he was actually 'detained', let us be clear: had the
Senator, or anyone else for that matter, tried to leave at that
point, he would have been threatened with arrest or arrested.
That's the very definition of detainment, he was not free to leave.
He was not just delayed, or held-up at the airport, he was DETAINED

Supreme Court won't hear case on concealed gun permit for medical marijuana user

The U.S. Supreme Court decided this week not to hear Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winter's legal challenge that asserted U.S. law trumps state laws when people with medical marijuana cards seek concealed handgun permits.
Portland attorney Lee Berger, who was part of a team of lawyers fighting Winter's argument, said this should send a message to Winters and other sheriffs to respect the rights of medical marijuana patients.
"The problem is the sheriffs hate the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act," said Berger, who represents medical marijuana patient Cynthia Willis, a Gold Hill resident. "They find ways to discriminate against patients."
Winters denied Willis a concealed handgun license in 2008 on the grounds that she uses medical marijuana, which is considered a controlled substance by the federal government.
The sheriff argued that he couldn't give the license to Willis because that would violate the Gun Control Act of 1968. Winters has lost every court case on the issue so far, including one before the Oregon Supreme Court.
The sheriff has provided concealed handgun licenses to Willis and other medical marijuana patients as a result of those court rulings.
Winters appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court in July.
The Supreme Court decided this week not to hear a similar case from Washington County.
